Doctor Week I

Doctor Office Week I was a time of great activity!  The children have not only moved fully into interactive play, they are now a solid little community of friends who are completely comfortable with one another!  As our photos illustrate, the children were totally absorbed in their activity and took the roles of doctor and patient very seriously!

Thank you to Wade, George and Stephen for stopping in on Conference Day today for a check up from their Pre-K 3 Buddies. Our Classroom Clinic is scheduled to take place this coming Monday, Tuesday ,Wednesday and Thursday from 8:45 to 9:15.  We hope you will plan to stop in for a quick check-up!

Many thanks to Melanie's mom, Dr. Lindsay, for coming in to talk with the children about her work as an Emergency Room Doctor.  The children children particularly enjoyed seeing her "real" doctor instruments.

Many thanks to Bertie's mom, Nurse Grace, for coming in to talk with the children about her work with patients after surgery.  She brought in her "real" stethoscope and let the children decide if they would like to listen to the beat of their own hearts!

Happy Birthday to Melanie who celebrated her fourth birthday with us on Monday!

Divertido con Espanol / Fun with Spanish
Senora Jen joined in our "Doctor Play" and broadened the children's medical vocabulary to include words en Espanol.

Looking Deeper:  Exploration and Learning through Play
This week let's take a closer look inside our Doctor's Office!

Upon first glance, our Doctor's Office appears to manifest itself primarily in the Dramatic Play area where there are lots of doctor's instruments, bags and clothing with which the children may play and explore.  There is also a bed, a skeleton, a desk and real x-rays!

However, upon further observation you will see that the theme permeates our entire classroom and is embedded in all areas of  our curriculum!  The children have indeed taken on the roles of doctor and patient, engaging each other as they draw on and expand on their prior experiences, learn many new medically related words , and use doctor tools in an appropriate manner.  Their faces readily reflect their passion and deep interest in the medical task at hand!

Within this theme, the children have also learned more about the make-up and function of their bodies as we read both non-fiction and fiction books together at Story Time.

We have also talked about the brain, heart, skeletal system, digestive system and the Five Senses.

The children enjoyed having their bodies traced and the process of personalizing their body
tracings!

Preparation began for our "Pre-K Three Clinic" as the children colored and reviewed their "Doctor Instrument Books."

The Children also decorated and distributed flyers for our up-coming classroom clinic.  I hope you will be able to stop in for a visit next week!

It has been so gratifying to witness the children's excitement, enthusiasm and passion each day as they have played, engaged, explored, discovered and learned within our Doctor's Office!

Have a fun and restful weekend!
